Implore the Muse

Spiteful, vindictive bitch!

I have no wish to plagiarize or pilfer; no hidden plan to ply anecdotes from your tightly clenched fists.

Even as I seek gentle inspiration, you ignore my pleas.

This week we are taking you, once again, back to school for a lesson in literary devices.  Remember the apostrophe? defines apostrophe as, “A figure of speech in which some absent or nonexistent person or thing is addressed as if present and capable of understanding.”  That same site provides some excellent examples of apostrophes in classical literature. Check them out and then have a crack at it yourself.  Give us your best 33-word example of an apostrophe.

My Muse continues her silence.

About Kir

Kirsten is a wife after years of dating, a mom after years of infertility & a lover of shoes, words, NYC and TV dramas. A storyteller and daydreamer at heart, this is the place where her stories come to be told. Thanks for visiting.

  1. I wondered what this was about until I read the title :-)

  2. Oh, you fickled muse… she teases us with an inkling of inspiration, only to tear it away before we can fully understand it. This is a plea I think we have all made at some time.

  3. “Please” is the magic word as a child, so maybe it will appease the muse? I hope this is fiction. If not, take her by the hair and show her who is boss! :)

  4. Kir, I love pleas vs. please here. My muse has been elusive lately, ignoring both:) I’ve turned to chocolate for comfort;) Excellent truthful piece, my friend!

  5. Hmmm… must be speaking about Ms. Inispiration…

  6. That devious muse… Pleading doesn’t help… She comes to visit when I want to sleep

  7. That was so perfect. Even without the muse’s help you are doing awesome !

  8. Forget passive aggressive, you’re rocking the aggressively passive here – please?! lol
Terrific apostrophe, Kir, and so good to shake that frustration out.

  9. This was such a clever one Kir… I read it twice. Loved it :d

  10. You clever girl! You know mine, as I’ve complained, was MIA for quite some time (that little bitch!). This was so good. And I, too, like *pleas*. Hope you have a wonderful Saturday!

  11. Though I love this I never imagine you alone, without your muse. You always have something out there worthy of our time. But, I get it, too. There are times when she hides under the desk and can’t be coaxed out. :)

  12. What a punch. I like it.

  13. Ha! I was going to write about Muse– she is elusive, eh? Fun piece.

  14. Haha! So frustrating when that happens!

  15. You depict the love/hate relationship between a writer and her muse so deftly. Love, love, love the way you let her have it and then end with a quiet “please?” But perhaps you shouldn’t be so hard on Muse; she served you well this time. :)

    Fabulously done, once again.

  16. Ugh the muse at times :)

  17. Now is that any way to treat a lady who holds your creative future in her hands? You must seduce and cajole, Kir!
    Thank you for linking up!

  18. Oh those muses, musi, whatever. So unreliable at times. Love this, Kir, I can relate.

  19. Oh, how well I know this feeling. Great job, Kir!
